Why Svist 21?As it often times happens when creating a name for a firm there are various more or less close to the business branch, well or bad to memorize, funny or awkward, proposal raised. The only criteria we agreed upon was to have a Czech title. We wanted to be unique amongst the deluge of English "-softs" and "-techs". When we were reviewing at spring of 2001 the list of left suitable alternatives we hated to cross out the ones whose domain name had been already taken or those which had been registered as a trademark or another that were similar to already existing firms in the same branch. Finally, thanks to the mother of one of the founders, the one left was short and attractive name "svist" (whizz).The name was born, the domain name svist.cz was free to register, nothing prevented us to establish a company named Svist at first look. Although there was a company with a similar name, Svist s.r.o. (Ltd.), but not only the suffix but also the business branch was from a different sphere. Our lawyer Jan Schmied from Novotny and Kunesova Law office set us right that a new business regulation requires unique names irrespective of legal title or business branch. Thus, we were forced to improve the simple Svist with something. At last we came up with popular 21 as we just entered the new century. 21 is also a winning number in one well-known card game. |
